The Film Jukebox

The Film Jukebox

Until about 15 years ago, when she met  Bram Wiersma with whom she started to explore visual theatre, visual artist Moniek Smeets created mainly installations that also caught on with a wider audience. Several of her structures were also displayed at the Den Bosch' 'Boulevard' festival in the late nineties. Today she returns with her contribution to the 'Fun Fair' exposition in 2007:

The Film Jukebox

It is a straightforward concept: pull a piece of string and something happens. About thirty strings are attached to a fascinating box. When you pull it you get to see a short animation especially created for the juke box, but there are also videos from the Wiersma&Smeets archives which they used in one of their visual theatre performances or which had ended up on the trash heap.

The Film Jukebox is a happy blend of high and low tech. From the outside it looks like a happy recycling object, on the inside you will find the most advanced multi media tech such as a vj machine connected to a midi keyboard on which every key generates a video. Pull as often as you like (but be careful!) and all of a sudden you will find yourself in a fantasy world of mostly silly and funny videos. After a while you will discover series too, such as the Little Houses videos, Little Red Riding Hood Strikes Back!!! and Mustache Shooter.

Suitable for all medium (sun)lit areas.
