The Crazy Face Machine is a moving installation in wich Moniek Smeets makes childhood photographs of herself change facial expressions in a stunningly simple way.
For years, Moniek has been making structures that "can do something". She manages to achieve miraculous effects with very simple means, where you can clearly see how it works. They are often based on chance discoveries, which she marvels at. She likes to share this wonder with others, young and old.
With Bram Wiersma, Moniek also developed many visual theater pieces since 1999, among which '‘Alientje', 'Lampje Lampje' and 'Stoplicht'.
She can therefore rightfully call herself Master Tinkerer.
